Marion Quirici teaches disability studies writing courses at Duke University. As the faculty advisor of the Duke Disability Alliance, she is working to make the college experience more accessible to students with disabilities of any kind, and collaborating with faculty across the disciplines to develop more inclusive teaching practices, and to build disability studies content into their courses. In her own classes, Marion trains students to critique and revise cultural assumptions about disability by analyzing language, the media, popular representations, the law, institutional spaces and practices, and the built environment. Her commitment to disability justice springs from family experiences of mental disability and the challenges of independent living. She is excited to join the Statewide Independent Living Council in its mission to build better communities and provide the resources that people need.
