Membership Committee Minutes August 12, 2015 Members present: Sandy Ogburn, Teresa Staley and Sandra Hicks Members absent: Keith Greenarch and Barry Washington Meeting was called to order by Sandy at 11:24 a.m. 1. Since being appointed in October of 2013, Mitzi Kincaid has only attended 2 quarterly meetings and no committee meetings. Sandy posed the question of how we should proceed. The committee decided to draft a letter reiterating the SILC attendance policy and asking what her intentions are before recommending termination. Sandy will draft that letter and send it to committee members for approval before sending it. 2. Debbie usually sends a thank you letter to those members that are terming off. Sandy asked the committee if we should continue that policy or should the committee draft their own letter. Teresa stated that we should let Debbie continue sending her letter but revise it to say “on behalf of the membership committee and the entire SILC.” Sandy will inform Debbie of the change. 3. The following applicants have been approved by Boards and Commissions: Tavonne Enoch, Gerald Green and Paul LaVack. Valerie Johnson was told that Gary Ray had already attended two meetings and even participated. We also stated the desire to have him appointed. Valerie stated she would take this to the board this week. 4. The following members have been reappointed: Rene Cummings, Keith Greenarch and Teresa Staley. Sandra Hicks application for renewal will be reviewed by Boards & Commissions this week also. 5. Jeff McCloud has submitted another application and needs to be brought before the full council. 6. Sandy reported to members that as of now, the SILC is in compliance with membership requirements but the need for new applicants is an ongoing challenge. The committee discussed ways to recruit members from areas of the state that we lack representation. It was decided a letter will be drafted to send to these counties to ask for potential applicants. The letters will be sent to colleges and universities that have departments for their population with disabilites, social service organizations, chambers and others. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 11:48 a.m. Respectfully submitted, Sandy Ogburn
